On July 30th, a collaboration agreement between both parties was officially signed by the Secretary General of WAITRO and the CEO of Jokkolabs Banjul in the Gambia.

As part of the network of Jokkolab Hubs, Jokkolabs Banjul and WAITRO intent to cooperate in the fields of research collaboration, incubation and up-scaling of start-ups.

The partnership between WAITRO and Jokkolabs Banjul is rooted in the great work of the African Europe Innovation Partnership (AEIP), a project funded by the European Commission, where both parties met. Fruitful talks between the WAITRO Office Germany and the CEO of Jokkolabs Banjul set the scene for an official agreement.

Potential areas for collaboration include the implementation of joint initiatives and program, and the organization of scientific and technological seminars and workshops.

Jokkolabs Banjul in the Gambia is a Social Change Hub using information technology and collective knowledge to fight inequality. It is part of the international non-profit organization Jokkolabs, which is connecting entrepreneurs and innovation centers in Africa and Europe. It started out in 2010 in Senegal and currently has hubs in 11 countries. There, it specifically targets in the business support of the young as well as female work force by offering a co-working space, a digital platform and development programs. One research outcome is recent data collection in the fields of education, recently for diagnostics on digital skills addressed by the World Bank.

We are confident that this new partnership will bring mutual benefits to WAITRO as an organization, its global network members and partners, and Jokkolabs.
